Frequently Asked Questions
Common Chiropractic Questions
Do I always have to see a Chiropractor if I start going?
Yes and no. If its just a simple tweak of the back doing yard work, then a few visits should get you back going at your normal pace pretty quickly. If it is a chronic ache/pain or if there is major trauma (think vehicle collision, slip and fall, athletic injury), then it will take longer.

Can I use Chiropractic for maintenance or can I go if I don't hurt all the time?
Sure thing! Maintenance or trying to stay ahead of the curve is a very smart way to take care of the body, just like working out, stretching, eating healthy, etc.

Does it hurt?
It shouldn't. There are many different techniques in Chiropractic, and you should find the one that fits your body. Being selective in choosing your health team is a must for long-term care. Your team should be caring and should listen to your complaints.

What's the pop sound? Gas builds up in the joint due to inactivity. When the joint "pops" it is actually the gas that is released, making the popping sound.

Is it bad to pop my neck or back myself?
Yes and no. In the short term, probably not. Stressing the joint at its end range just to make the pop happen, can overtime, cause more wear and tear on the joint leading to degeneration. If its a once in a while thing, you will be fine. But, if you do it daily, you should ask yourself, why does this joint need to always be popped? Normally there is a range of motion issue in that joint that is never truly fixed, therefore it always "needs" to be popped. Or in other words, you should focus on working on that particular joint's mobility issue.

What is mobility?
Mobility is controlled motion. Most people think mobility and flexibility are the same thing, but they are not. You can be a very flexible person, but lack the control of the motion you are performing. Mobility=strength+flexibility.

Are Chiropractors real doctors?
While Chiropractors do not dispense medicines or perform surgeries, they are primary care physicians who can diagnose and treat spinal pain as well as extremity (arm/leg) issues.

Can I see a Chiropractor if I have had a spinal surgery?
100% and especially if they utilize decompression in their office. Not every Chiropractic patient has to be "popped" to be considered as a patient. There are several techniques used by Chiropractors that do not actually pop the joint. Examples: Cox flexion & distraction, Activator, Thompson drop, SOT.
